Start with what a recruiter needs first
Recruiters often scan a CV quickly. Put your name, phone number, email and town or city at the top, followed by a short profile that says what kind of role you are looking for and what you bring.
A reliable section order
- Contact details and a short profile
- Key skills that match the advert
- Work experience, most recent first
- Education and qualifications
- Training, certificates and licences
- References, or 'available on request'
Details you usually do not need
A normal CV does not need your ID number, race, religion, marital status or a photo. Share sensitive details only when a specific application form officially asks for them.
Keep it to two pages where possible
For most roles, two well-organised pages are enough. Graduates can often fit everything on one or two pages by focusing on studies, projects, volunteering and part-time work.
