Questions you should prepare for
- Tell us about yourself.
- Why do you want this role?
- What do you know about our organisation?
- Tell us about a time you solved a problem at work or school.
- How do you handle pressure or a difficult customer?
- Where do you see yourself in three years?
- Do you have any questions for us?
Use the STAR method
For questions about past experience, describe the Situation, the Task you had, the Action you took, and the Result. Prepare three or four STAR stories you can adapt to different questions.
Government panel interviews
Public-service interviews are often run by a panel with set questions linked to the post's duties. Reread the advert, know the department's role, and prepare examples for each key requirement.
On the day
Arrive early or test your connection for online interviews, bring copies of your documents if asked, and prepare one or two questions about the role.
