Cover letter · Free South African guide
Cover letters for South African job applications.
A good cover letter is short, uses the words in the advert and points to one or two real results.
- Short examples by job type
- Matching the advert's keywords
- Email body vs attached letter
- Editable letters in the toolkit

Example lines
- Retail: "I balanced my till without shortfalls for six months and helped train two new cashiers."
- Admin: "I set up a filing system that made client records easier to find."
- Call centre: "I handled around 80 calls a day while keeping quality scores on target."
- Graduate: "My final-year project analysed water usage data for a local municipality."
Emailing your application
Use the subject line the advert asks for. Keep the email body to a short version of your letter, attach your CV and letter as PDFs, and name the files clearly (e.g. Thandi-Mokoena-CV.pdf).
