How to write a job application letter.
In South Africa, 'application letter' and 'cover letter' usually mean the same thing: a one-page letter sent with your CV.

Format
- Your name, phone and email at the top.
- Date and the employer's name and address.
- Subject line: Application for [post], Ref [number].
- Three short paragraphs: the post, why you fit, closing.
- Sign-off: Yours sincerely, your name.
Example
"Dear Hiring Manager, I am applying for the Admin Clerk post (Ref 2026/014) advertised on your website. I have two years' experience managing filing, invoices and phones for a busy medical practice, and I am comfortable with Excel and email. I am available to start immediately and can be reached on the number above. Yours sincerely, Thandi Mokoena." (Fictional example.)
