Where to download the official Z83

Download the current Z83 from the DPSA website (dpsa.gov.za) or from the website of the department advertising the post. Some departments attach it to the advert itself. Never pay anyone for a Z83, and avoid copies on random file-sharing sites, which are often outdated.

How to fill it in

  • Part A, the post: copy the post title, reference number and department exactly as they appear in the advert.
  • Part B, personal details: full names, ID or passport number, and contact details you check daily.
  • Part C, qualifications and experience: either complete fully or, where the form allows, refer to your attached CV. Follow the advert's instructions.
  • Questions about criminal record, dismissals and conflicts of interest: answer truthfully.
  • Declaration: sign and date it. An unsigned Z83 is a common reason applications are rejected.

Common mistakes

  • Using an old version of the form when the advert asks for the new one.
  • Leaving the reference number blank.
  • Not signing the declaration.
  • One Z83 for several posts. Use a separate form for each post.
  • Missing the closing date. Late applications are not considered.

Scam warning

Real employers and government departments never ask you to pay for a job, an interview, training or a 'registration fee' to be shortlisted. If someone asks for money or your banking PIN, walk away and report it.
