An affidavit is a written statement you swear or affirm is true before a commissioner of oaths. Job seekers often need one for lost certificates, name differences or proof of residence.

Where
Police stations commission affidavits and certify copies free of charge. Attorneys, some bank officials and others appointed as commissioners of oaths can also do it. Never sign before the commissioner is present.
